Our Family
In 2023, we celebrated the 75th Anniversary of our family operating Mountainbrooks Ranch!
Mountainbrooks Ranch is our family-owned guest ranch which has been in operation each year since 1948. So, our family has run Mountainbrooks Ranch for over 75 years!
We consider this property to be very special. We would like to be here all summer if not for our other commitments. It is our home away from home.
There are also other friends and families who have been our guests at Mountainbrooks Ranch many times over the years. Like our family, they too remember stories about what their grandparents, friends, and relatives did at Mountainbrooks Ranch.
Aspen Cabin was originally built in 1924 as a small guest cabin. The construction of Boulder Cabin was started by a high school shop class in 1946 and finished by a professional builder soon after.
My grandparents, Wayland and Clyda Boles, first visited this property in 1947 and then purchased it in 1948. They were successful business owners in Dallas, Texas. Grandmommy and Granddaddy would bring their three young daughters, Sharon, Marcia, and Barbara, (my mother and my aunts) to spend summers here. Granddaddy named it Mountainbrooks Ranch because he loved the water flowing over the property. He started the guest ranch operation by renting cabins to summer vacationers.
Granddaddy bought a used airport limousine from a singing cowboy band which the family called Bussie. It was an early "stretch" limousine made from the front of one Chrysler sedan attached to the back of another Chrysler sedan. It had an underpowered 6-cylinder engine. Granddaddy painted it Army green, removed the back seats, and installed beds and storage compartments for camping gear in the back of the bus. It was so unusual for the time that the Dallas Morning News ran a story about his "house on wheels." Although it was before my time, the family traveled from Texas to Mountainbrooks Ranch and many other places in Bussie for many years.
Over the years, many additional rooms and features have been added to the cabins and the property. Granddaddy had an amphitheater built outside so that he could entertain guests in the 1950s with slide shows and organ music! Both cabins have had their porches enclosed and turned into rooms with picture windows. Aspen Cabin had other rooms added including two bedrooms and the kitchen. Granddaddy added the well and pump house in the 1980s.
Four generations of my family have traveled to Mountainbrooks Ranch. Many friends, family members, and guests have also visited our cabins. My daughter has visited every year of her life so far, coming with us or with her friends.
Since these cabins and this land are so special to my family, we love to share the experience with other people.
Thanks for visiting Mountainbrooks Ranch!
